Letting the Butterflies Go

This is the first year I've ordered caterpillars so the kids could watch their life cycle.  It was very interesting, but the caterpillars/butterflies were very sneaky!  Eight of the 10 emerged from the chrysalis over a weekend.  The 9th one emerged while we were immersed in our math lesson.   I was determined the kids would get to witness one emerging!  I put the habitat at the very front of the room so we could watch closely.   I turned off the light to show a 4-minute video on life cycles and when the light went back on, the 10th butterfly had emerged!  We missed them all!    For 3 days we watched them flutter around their habitat, waiting for a sunny, calm day to set them free.  The kids decided to name the butterflies as they flew from their habitat.  They were all named Jr.  What a fun time the kids had watching them fly away!
