Playing Dinosaur Roll and Race
After showing pictures from the internet of sedimentary layers of the earth, I discussed with the kids that dinosaur fossils are found in these layers of the earth. I had pieces of a wooden 3-D dinosaur puzzle placed between 2 layers of Play-doh and the kids were supposed to have to chisel through and find the pieces. It didn't turn out exactly that way--they just had to pull the top layer off--but it did show the prints in the Play-doh from the puzzle pieces, so maybe they learned something. And they seemed to enjoy it.
Trying to put the pieces together |
For some reason volcanoes and dinosaurs seem to go together, so I did a volcano experiment for them.
It started out slow and I thought it was going to work, but the "lava" finally started to flow. |
Everyone went to the playground, but Grace stayed and watched until there was nothing left. |
When we came in from recess Cache and Chance helped me get a start on the puzzle.
